Curtis and Stephanie – a long time coming, super happy, and ready for the work ahead.
Steve and Griffin – we didn’t see it coming, but we’re so happy it did!

Vancouver girls, grinds and grills

7 years ago, my randomly assigned freshman-year college roommate met me in Raleigh totting a bottle of wine and dreams of the future. We talked about what that future might be and took a stab at writing it down. We sealed those winey predictions in an envelope and vowed to open them the year we turned 30 on a girl’s trip to Greece.

2 states and 3 moves later, the envelope found itself unearthed from New York City and en route to Vancouver. Yeah, we’d still like to go, but finances and families made it a bit difficult for this year. Work helped — an award for me + a guest paved the way for the two of us to escape again to a balcony with a bottle of wine for the opening of our time capsule. Cheers to you Melissa for achieving so many check marks on your vision of the future. Heck, you even penned some goals for both of your sister which also came true

Strange soothsayer

Ok, so social networking tools have been surprising me for a couple of years now… The latest “WT…Wow!” was when Linked.In connected me with an exchange student who stayed with me for 6 weeks one summer in High School — we are both now married with different last names … I still have no idea how the algorithm cooked up a possible connection.

But today … well, today, I sucked it up and did what I’ve been trying to avoid for so long and joined Facebook. The best part of this experience though was the comical results of the security pop up … to protect spam, you need to enter 2 randomly generated & paired words on a pop up window for each person before you can send them an invitation email.. you’ve seen these before. But the amazing part was exactly which words were paired with which potential friends. A sample below for your reading pleasure (note: you need to know the people — or yourself — to get the joke. And I will not make explanations, this is an “inside joke” post! — To save the innocent, I’ve ***ed out key letters of surnames, but you’ll know who you are.) Enjoy!

Yay, I’ve secured my first real invitation to someone’s house for dinner Met a (british) expat here at IBM, she’s young and blonde and smart and interested in technology … so we’re very different but are trying to get along

I’m in charge of bringing dessert, which I will be buying somewhere.

There will be a few other people there as well (not from IBM) — so looking forward to eating and laughing with some friendly faces! (Saturday night … here I come!)
